Lewisham Council July Meeting
Lewisham Council July Meeting

Here’s a report on the last council meeting, by the newly elected Tauseef Anwar, a Councillor in Crofton Park ward; this was his first full business council meeting, having previously attended the initial AGM which conducts little policy business. He says,

“… it was not well attended by the visitors, apart from nearly one dozen members of the public with their questions. Most of these related to the proposed development at Tidemill School and proposed loss of mature  green space. Cllr Paul Bell defended the development stating that 86% of the original green space has been provided in return for the loss of Tidemill garden; he also mentioned that the place was only open for few hours a week to the public. A lady from the public gallery insisted that an alternative plan would provide the same housing and save the green space; Paul’s stance was clear that we cannot wait for the alternative plan as it will further delay accommodation for over 100 families, who are currently living in homeless hostels or bed & breakfast.

There was one minute silence for Win Hardy former Mayoress who passed away. A consultation on “Gypsy and Travellers” sites was approved  together with the religious education syllabus. The Council also approved 2018/9 Catford regeneration plan. Milford tower lease extension arrangement has been approved by Secretary of State and was approved in the meeting.

Also appointments were made for Councillors to be the members of the Appointments committee and the working group for the Council’s democracy review.
